Texture of 2-D and 3-D Images

There are a number of ways to quantify texture. We are working on a project investigating the texture of 2-D and 3-D images using lacunarity and average local variance, a concept linked to fractals, and the average local variance. Plots of these variables against scale provide a texture signature, which can be used to classify different images.

It is thought that the techniques for 3-D textures may be used to determine the curvature of the universe.
